What is a “Wildcard”?
- Many people know it as the multi-colored card that can adapt to any color in a deck of Uno. It has the power to change the fate and direction of the game.
- Others might think of Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, most notably for his unique and unconventional character who is capable of anything and acts on his own terms with no apologies.
- Sports Fans would recognize it as an extra opportunity to qualify for a championship competition that was not achieved in the usual way.
- While computing geeks will naturally think of it as an Asterisk (*) or (?) character as a flexible way to search and process data.
If we look for a common theme among these examples we find that the Wildcard Nomad is someone who is adaptable, flexible, and has freedom to create a new direction in life. It’s someone who isn’t pinned down to any location or pressured to stay somewhere even if they know the right thing to do is leave. People evolve and grow over time and some places or communities that once were supportive to our growth are no longer helpful and may even be hampening our success. The Wildcard Nomad is an original trailblazer who thinks outside the box and challenges conventions. They are often seen as unpredictable or do unexpected things because they know they have to adapt into new ways of thinking, and course-correct their behaviours to reach their goals, like a heat-seeking missile oscillating its way to hit its target. Ultimately, they are true to themselves, focus on what makes them happy and makes no apologies for it, ignoring the nay-sayers who question their choices in life.
Our Philosophy:
We believe travel is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves which helps us grow and succeed closer towards our dreams. Your personal growth depends on your curiosity to discover your strengths, gifts, talents, dreams and skills. Travel helps us develop perspective by immersing oneself to new environments.
We are about sampling as much as life has to offer and want to show you what possibilities are out there. Some of these ideas may appear unconventional and may even incite an intervention from concerned loved ones. We are here to show you what the world has to offer, but it ultimately comes down to you to take the leap of faith, ignore the nay-sayers and follow that inner spark you have burning in your heart to explore and discover not only the world but your full potential.
The Reason We Travel:
When you study successful people you find that they focus entirely on their core competencies and surround themselves with complimentary forces that play to their strengths. They proactively position themselves in front of opportunities that take advantage of their talents.
Your surroundings play a big part in influencing your success, and discovering your potential strengths and moving to environments where you can nurture these strengths can help you succeed and work towards your dreams.
The Wildcard Nomad can often be seen as contrarian or unconventional by rejecting the status quo and going against the herd. They move to places around the world which stimulates them and help them thrive in their personal and professional lives. We believe that immersing yourself in a place that supports your strengths and interests is like the underwater ocean currents that enable marine life to traverse vast distances than they could ever achieve alone. Your environment is similar to this phenomena. Much like how sailors use trade winds to effortlessly coast around the world, you have to first find out where are your tailwinds. In this case, your tailwinds could be a number of factors that are both external and internal.
External Factors:
These are some of the major external forces that can make a big impact in your life. Use your intuition as a starting point to filter destinations that have the potential to light you up and feel excited.
- People: The people nearest to you will have an impact on your mindset and behaviour. We think of this as your social circle and community but it extends to the broader culture of the town, city and country. What kind of people energizes you?
- Geography: Climate, Terrain, Urban spaces, Green spaces, Pollution, Noise levels are some things to consider that can affect your mood. Do you like the multi-sensory experience in high-tech cities or the calming green fields in remote areas?
- Economic: Some places offer superior business and networking opportunities for a defined industry and audience. Creatives go to Berlin, Startup founders gravitate towards Silicon Valley, Adventurers hangout in Queenstown. Where can you increase your chances for the greatest success given your professional and personal ambitions?
- Learning: Access to learning new skills and personal development opportunities. What skills and areas of your life do you want to develop and where are the best places to go for that?
Internal Factors:
What truly makes you happy?
Maybe you don’t know yet. Here are some clues …
Your Strengths
- Gifts: Natural abilities that come to you from beginning an activity. What are you wired to do? What feels so easy and effortless to you that others often ask for your help in that area?
- Love: Things you’re most excited about. What do you enjoy doing with your time?
- Skills: Knowledge and learnable skills that you have acquired over time.
- Talents: is a combination of Gifts + Love + Skills
Combining all of the above factors can get you pretty close to Ikigai – the confluence of where your passion, talents, and worldly needs intersect.
Aristotle said “Where your talents and the world’s needs meet is where you will find your vocation”.
Wildcard Nomad is not just about finding exciting places and quick dopamine hits. We’re focused on long-lasting positive change, and that comes about by knowing yourself through experiencing as much of the world to see what situations gives you superpowers. We can provide you suggestions on destinations to explore, workshops or retreats to learn and develop, activities to find your passions, and communities that are your type of crowd. All that is required from you is to use your intuition and follow the signs that pique your curiosities. It’s almost like rediscovering your childhood, where you followed your fascinations before the busyness of life got in the way. Beat to your own drum and forge your unique identity by boldly choosing a life that is fulfilling to YOU and not to somebody else’s desires.
